Thank you.

I have a hundred follow-up questions, but suspect the efficient way to learn, for example, “are there any other stargate routings from the Republic to the Worlds other than the Borderline?” is to wait for further posts and see.

Well, no, there aren’t - hence the name. Actually, that’s not strictly true; the Borderline connects the systems on the Worlds’ side of the Demilitarized Border Zone, and the actual border-links are in the center of the DBZ, so it looks like:

[Borderline system]<->[Worlds-side DBZ]<->[Republic-side DBZ]<->[Republic system]

(The Republic doubtless has its own Borderline-equivalent line of “neutral zone monitoring stations” and the odd naval depot symmetrically on its side of the DBZ, but no-one’s named those yet.)

The Worlds-Republic Demarcation Convention both established the DBZ and established a firm rule that no-one would try to set up other links bypassing the Zone.

If you don’t mind mostly-date-only spoilers, spoiler

Mostly I was thinking, are there other regions that aren’t the Republic or the Worlds, and do any of those connect to both sides? Or are there any Powers that maintain gates from their home system to both sides, and is anybody silly enough to try using them as a bypass…

But that’s a good enough answer, thanks.

Before the Spice Way comes along, in the known chunk of galaxy, if you had stargates, you were either part of the Worlds’ plexus or the Republic’s. (The latter even including the not!Klingons and not!Cardassians out on their other flank.)

…they have people on their other flank? And they are dependent on the Propulsion Group’s stargates to stay connected to the galaxy?

Oy…
