Best known for “Blindsight” and the Rifters trilogy, Watts focuses on diamond-hard sci-fi involving biology, neuroscience, AI, and the nature of consciousness. Emphasis on “hard”; Blindsight and some of his other works feature a citation page as long as a entire chapter, listing where he got all of his information and his justifications for putting it in the story. If you want a interesting yet well-grounded picture of the future, touching on concepts and ramifications that you’ve never considered, look no further. Downside: most of his works are depressing as fuck.
