It occured to me today, as I read an article about the suggestion (and a delightfully racist phrasing, too) by the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition that one should refrain from reporting bicycle thieves lest they suffer - shock, horror - the consequences of their special crime, that one advantage of having misprision of felony on the books is that anyone aggressively unmutual enough to put such an idea into practice could be assigned consequences right alongside the thief. Which they might well enjoy even less.
(Sadly, the consequences of merely advocating doing so are necessarily less direct.)
