Mm. Hateseeking missiles. They should be a thing. scribbles
But that’s not what this post is about.
While I don’t seek them out, I do enjoy the existence of my hatereaderdom when I occasionally run into them. After all, if you don’t have people who hate your opinions, you probably don’t have any interesting opinions in the first place.
(You just have to remember not to engage. It wastes your time and annoys the pig.)
I could wish for a little more literacy from them, inasmuch as I’d prefer to get said hatereaderdom for what I actually wrote rather than hallucinations loosely based on it (“no, the plain text on the page says that’s not how that works! your other take ignore 5,000 years of history!”), but since I’ve already been accused of “hogging all the highly literate readers”, I suppose I should be grateful for who I have rather than demanding more.
(Thanks, y’all!)
But sometimes I have questions.
Except from one recent example:
his expies of confederates being treated better than colonized cultures in his stuff is always funny (rebels get a monument, colonized cultures get bombed and told they deserve it for being inferor)
…this is where I’m trying to track down the original sources of the crazy takes.
I think the former is referring to the memorial beacon on Hyníne, here, modulo having missed that the Cerenaith Alliance weren’t rebels - as Olbria Amanyr points out, they’ve never had a civil war - but the not-wanting-to-be-conquered side of the Consolidation. (Ironically, about as close to colonized cultures as it gets.) Also, not particularly known for slavery or other gross unpleasantnesses. Also also, ignoring the entire Imperial Military Service tradition of honoring worthy opponents. Et cetera.
But so it goes.
I have no goddamn clue where they got the latter from. The Gervés Incident, maybe, although it doesn’t really fit the bill, Gervés being an independent world and us not knowing anything about the Solidarity Faction and its relationship to the World Assembly of Gervés. Deliberately, because that’s not the point; the chaps on First Under Heaven don’t care to know either. The bombardment’s because they’re a bunch of assholes who drag innocent third parties into their bullshit.
Indeed, you’d have some trouble finding any colonized peoples, I ween, inasmuch I’m not exactly subtle when it comes to pointing out just what a terrible idea they think Earth-style colonialism and Empires-of-the-sword are, but evidently I’m too subtle for some.
Anyone think of a better fit off the top of their head?
