Pulling my tongue out of my cheek, even if there doesn’t appear to be some noncomputable aspect of sapience like in the Eldraeverse, it’s probably sufficient to create a spectrum of non-determinism that starts with a rock that will do nothing but follow the force fields it’s exposed to, all the way to a moon-brain that, yes, is affected by external forces, but is so internally intricate and complex that the effects of those forces are chaotically rendered into something indistinguishable from free will.

The professor here may be objecting to the former, but not the latter.

A possibility rooted in Catholic theology:

While our actions within the days of the universe are technically predestined, God has used His hypercomputation from before the world to process everybody’s noncomputable free will for all of the decisions everybody will make ever.

Insofar as I choose to take a stance here, it is that compatibilism is copium.
