Emoji Menu is Slow To Open on Desktop Safari

My normal desktop browser is Safari (16.2 on MacOS Ventura), and when I click the emoji menu in the editing bar (or the “more…” entry in the emoji popup menu), it takes almost five seconds for the panel to come up. I checked in Chrome, and it takes a bit less than a second, which is still kind of slow, but not nearly as bad. Is this something that should be reported to Discourse? If so, how?

Huh. Apparently, when the editor loads the emojis, it doesn’t just render them using your brower’s built in emoji rendering, it actually fetches the emojis as images. That seems like it’s a large source of latency right there.

I’ll poke them about it.
